Frequently asked questions
Cloud sync isn't working - my notes aren't appearing on another device

A few things to check:

  • Make sure you're signed into the same account on both devices (Settings → Account).
  • Cloud sync requires an internet connection on both devices. Try switching from Wi-Fi to mobile data or vice versa.
  • Pull down to refresh on the Library screen to trigger a manual sync.
  • If the issue persists, sign out and sign back in - this re-establishes your sync session.

Still stuck? Email us with your account email address and we'll look into it.

Suggested Connections isn't generating any suggestions

Suggested Connections needs at least a few notes across different sources to find meaningful links. If your library is new, add more notes first.

The feature runs once per day - if you've already generated suggestions today, tap the refresh icon in the top-right corner of the Connections screen to force a new run.

Suggestions also require an active internet connection since they're powered by Gemini AI on our servers. Check your connection and try again.

Discover isn't returning results for a source

Discover uses AI to find thematically related books, movies, and series based on what you've selected. It needs an internet connection to work.

  • Check your connection and tap the source again - results load per-type (Books / Movies / Series) in parallel.
  • For very niche or obscure sources, the AI may return fewer results. This is expected.
  • If you see an error banner, it usually clears on the next attempt.
I forgot my password / can't sign in

On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password? and enter your email address. You'll receive a reset link from Firebase (Google's auth service) within a few minutes - check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive.

If you signed up with Google Sign-In, use the "Continue with Google" button instead of email/password.

How do I export my notes and knowledge graph?

Your full library is exportable as JSON from Settings → Export data. The export includes all sources, notes, note links, and graph layout positions.

The JSON file is saved to your Files app and can be shared, backed up, or used to migrate data if you ever switch devices.

How do I delete my account and all my data?

Will my notes be used to train AI models?

No. Synapse does not use your note content for training. When you use AI features, your notes are sent to Google's Gemini API to generate results - they are subject to Google's API terms, not used by us for any purpose beyond producing your results. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

My graph layout isn't saving between sessions

Graph positions are saved locally on your device automatically. If you're using cloud sync, your layout is also backed up and restored when you sign in on a new device.

If positions aren't persisting, try force-quitting the app and reopening it. If the issue continues, email us with your iOS version and device model.
